This year, Philanthropy Southwest celebrates its 70th year. Philanthropy Southwest’s Annual Conference draws trustees and staff attendees from grant-making organizations of all types and sizes and provides the opportunity to connect fellow philanthropists located or making investments in the Southwestern United States.

A few highlights this year include:

  • Special 70th Anniversary Celebration Event at the Moody Gardens Aquarium 
  • A community foundation track 
  • Plenary Speakers:
    • Col. Michael E. Fossum, NASA astronaut (retired)
    • Kristen Lewis, Measure of America
    • Adrian Bordone, Guidestar
    • Stephen Klineberg, Kinder Institute for Urban Research, Rice University
  • “My Heart is Not Blind,” a traveling exhibit by Michael Nye of photographic and audio stories of individuals from around the country who are blind (to open at the Witte Museum in 2018)
  • An early, extended session about the opioid crisis in America
  • Offsite Learning Opportunities: National Lab/UTMB, Artist Boat, Galveston Historical Foundation History Project, Galveston Urban Ministries, Resource Crisis Center & Seeding Galveston
